Farmers are eagerly anticipating the introduction of the newly developed variety of Paneer grapes. Paneer grapes, which started being cultivated 32 years ago, now have the necessary space for the introduction of the new improved variety.

This new variety was discovered three years ago through collaboration between the Coimbatore Agricultural University and the Anamalaiyampatti Grape Research Center. Currently, there are 14 varieties of Paneer grapes, with the fifth variety being the Theni Grapes Collection 126 (TGC 126), also known as DGC 126.

The key feature of this new variety is that the yield does not decrease even when the grapes are exposed to heat during the summer months. In other varieties, the yield decreases when exposed to heat, but this new variety does not show such a reduction. Additionally, the sweetness level of this new variety ranges from 22 to 26 Brix, which is higher than the 18 to 20 Brix sweetness found in current varieties.

To avoid the issue of "sewattai" disease, this new variety offers several other benefits. With this, farmers can expect to obtain better quality yields with higher returns.

Farmers have expressed the need for the quick introduction of this new variety. However, the Coimbatore Agricultural University has not yet made a decision, and the reason for the delay is currently unclear. Farmers are urging for swift action to introduce this variety and ensure its widespread adoption.

This new variety has the potential to elevate Paneer grape farming to new heights and bring multiple benefits to farmers.
