In anticipation of the Thai Pongal festival, the Tamil Nadu government is set to begin the distribution of free Pongal kits, including veshtis and sarees, to ration cardholders starting tomorrow (January 7). This initiative offers a wonderful opportunity for the people of Tamil Nadu to celebrate Pongal with joy and unity. Through this forward-thinking scheme, 4.27 lakh ration cardholders will receive the Pongal items.

The free items include one kilogram of rice, sugar, and jaggery. In addition, veshtis and sarees will be provided to enable ration cardholders to celebrate the festival in a special way. These items, including rice, sugar, veshtis, and sarees, are being transported from the Tamil Nadu Consumer Goods Corporation’s depots to the ration shops.

The Tamil Nadu government is also purchasing and collecting sugarcane from farmers. Sugarcane is being procured from regions such as Chinnamanur, Kottur, and Devadhanapatti, and then dispatched to various locations. Sugarcane purchased from Chinnamanur is being distributed to areas including Chinnamanur, Utthampalayam, Kambam, and Bodinayakkanur. Similarly, sugarcane purchased from Kottur is being sent to Theni, and from Devadhanapatti, it is being distributed to Andipatti and Periyakulam.

According to officials, 60% of the Pongal items and free veshtis and sarees will be delivered to the ration shops by tonight. The distribution of these goods is expected to help improve the livelihoods of the people and enable them to celebrate the festival with enthusiasm, creating immense joy among the general public.

This initiative is part of a series of social welfare schemes undertaken by the Tamil Nadu government, and it is expected that celebrating Pongal in this manner will be a special experience for the people of the state.

In addition, veshtis and sarees will be provided to enable ration cardholders to celebrate the festival in a special way.
