The Tamil Nadu government has assured that it will raise the water level of the Mullaperiyar Dam from 142 feet to 152 feet. This important announcement was made by Minister I. Periyasamy. He made this statement after paying floral tributes to the statue of engineer Pennycuick at the Lower Camp Pennycuick Manimandapam in Theni district.
He further added, "The plan to raise the Mullaperiyar Dam is crucial for addressing the water scarcity in the southern part of Tamil Nadu. We have built a statue of engineer Pennycuick in London on behalf of the government, and it was unveiled there. His contribution should always be remembered."
Earlier, the DMK government obtained permission to raise the dam's water level from 136 feet to 142 feet. Various engineering experts who have examined the dam confirmed its strength and supported this elevation. According to the current plan, after strengthening the Baby Dam, negotiations with the Kerala government will be held to raise the dam's water level to 152 feet.
This project not only aims to provide the necessary water levels for southern Tamil Nadu but also focuses on strengthening the dam’s capacity. The government has assured the people of the necessary steps taken to ensure the success of this initiative.
