Tuticorin V.O.C. Port has achieved a new milestone in handling wind turbine blades. In the first quarter of the 2024-2025 financial year, the port handled 1,869 wind turbine blades, setting a new record. This marks a 40% growth compared to the same period in the previous financial year.
According to a press release issued by V.O.C. Port Chairman Sushanthkumar Brogith, wind turbine blades and their components are mainly manufactured in Indian cities such as Bengaluru, Trichy, and Chennai. These products are then exported through the V.O.C. Port to various parts of the world, including the USA, Turkey, Australia, Spain, Finland, and European countries. This increases global production and export opportunities through the V.O.C. Port.
With the growing demand for wind turbine blade exports, the port has allocated 100,000 square meters of space to safely store and efficiently handle these blades. This dedicated area simplifies and ensures the safe handling and movement of wind turbine blades.
The port's advanced infrastructure, heavy-lifting machinery, congestion-free road traffic, and skilled workforce have contributed to the effective and safe handling of wind turbine blades. As a result, V.O.C. Port has developed unique features that distinguish it in this field, positioning itself as an important player in global trade.
By December 2024-2025, the V.O.C. Port had handled 1,869 wind turbine blades, demonstrating significant growth compared to the previous year. Specifically, in December of the previous year, only 88 blades were handled, while this year, the port achieved a 234% increase, handling 294 wind turbine blades.
Additionally, during this financial year, there has been a 50% increase in the handling of vessels carrying wind turbine blades and their components. The efforts of the port authorities, ship agents, transporters, and exporters have played a significant role in achieving this milestone.
The port's infrastructure has been given high priority, and this achievement reinforces V.O.C. Port's position as a preferred hub for global export operations. Furthermore, V.O.C. Port plays a crucial role in handling wind turbine blades in an environmentally friendly manner, supporting a greener and more sustainable future.
As a result, V.O.C. Port has emerged as the preferred port for exporters and has established itself as a key player in global trade with its efficiency, performance, and unique capabilities.
