The Tirupur Municipal Corporation's newly built daily market complex is nearing completion and is preparing for its grand opening. However, consumer organizations in the area have raised concerns regarding the auctioning process of the shops within the complex. They have strongly emphasized the importance of transparency in the auction process, urging the municipal authorities to issue formal notices and conduct a public auction in accordance with government regulations.
Consumer groups, including the Tirupur Consumer Awareness Wing, the Nallur Consumer Welfare Association, and the Tirupur District Consumer Federation, have raised their objections with the Municipal Commissioner, Mr. Ramamoorthy. They stressed that the highest bidder should be guaranteed the shop, and the auction process should be done transparently, with clear announcements and adherence to legal norms.
The organizations have also brought attention to a concerning issue where some individuals are reportedly collecting money from business owners by promising to sublet the shops at higher rents. These practices go against the principles of fairness and transparency in public auctions. The consumer groups have called for action against such illegal activities.
Furthermore, the consumer organizations have requested that the municipal corporation take strict action against those who take shops at low rents and then sublet them at inflated prices. They also pointed out that the corporation is facing financial challenges, which could lead to further revenue loss if these illegal activities continue. Additionally, they recommended that consumer representatives be invited to municipal council meetings to ensure that consumer interests are considered in future decisions.
This call for transparency and fair practices aims to protect the interests of local traders and prevent any misuse of public assets. The organizations hope their concerns will be addressed, ensuring that the new market serves the people of Tirupur in a fair and equitable manner.
