Koratthur, a village situated near Thirumazhisai in the Poondamallee block, has been dealing with a growing concern regarding its Gram Seva Centre. Built in 2013 under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), this Gram Seva Centre was constructed at a cost of ₹14.55 lakh. The purpose of the centre was to provide essential services to the local population, such as issuing caste and residence certificates, among other benefits.
However, local residents claim that despite being transferred to the Tamil Nadu Rural Livelihoods Mission (TNRLM), the centre has not been fully functional, and its intended services have not been made available to the public in a proper manner.
The situation has worsened recently due to heavy rains, which have caused the area surrounding the Gram Seva Centre to become flooded with rainwater. The stagnant water has turned the area into a makeshift pond, rendering it impossible for the villagers to access the centre or use it for its intended purposes.
In light of this, the residents of Koratthur have raised their voices, urging the concerned authorities to take immediate action to remove the accumulated rainwater and restore the Gram Seva Centre to its functional state. They have requested that the authorities clear the waterlogged area and ensure that the facility is accessible to all villagers, fulfilling its purpose.
In response to this issue, an official from the Poondamallee block stated that an investigation would be conducted to examine the situation and that necessary steps would be taken to remove the rainwater and make the centre usable for the community.
