In Thiruthani, located in the Murugappa Nagar area, a government middle school has been operational with more than 80 students. The school campus houses a classroom building that was constructed over 20 years ago. Due to the lack of regular maintenance, the building has fallen into disrepair and has become a safety hazard.
The upper floor of the two-classroom building collapsed some time ago, rendering the building unusable. As a result, it has been sealed off for over a year. To prevent students from approaching the building, ropes were tied around it. Despite this precaution, students continue to play near the structure during the lunch break, raising serious concerns about potential accidents.
Parents have expressed their dissatisfaction and have urged the authorities to take immediate action and demolish the dilapidated building to ensure the safety of the children. The local administration has responded by stating that the Murugappa Nagar government middle school was previously under the care of the Thiruthani Union administration until last March. Since then, responsibility for the schools in the municipality has been transferred to the municipal administration. The officials have promised to take necessary action and demolish the damaged building in the near future.
The demolition of the old building is being prioritized to avoid any unfortunate incidents and to ensure that students can continue their education in a safe and secure environment.
