In Thiruvallur district, a total compensation of ₹14.99 crore was distributed to 12,927 farmers for Samba and Rabi crops under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for the 2023-24 season. The compensation was directly credited to the farmers' bank accounts. Collector D. Prabhusankar shared this information, adding that the district has seen significant support under the PMFBY, which has provided ₹378.08 crore in compensation to 1,76,273 farmers from 2016-17 to 2023-24.
In 2023-24, ₹14.72 crore was distributed among 12,787 farmers for Samba crops, and ₹27 lakh was given to 140 farmers for Rabi crops. The district has also been proactive in registering farmers for crop insurance. For the upcoming 2024-25 season, 1,020 farmers from 1,333 hectares have enrolled for Kharif crop insurance, while 20,731 farmers have registered for Samba crop insurance covering 23,289.35 hectares.
Furthermore, under the PM-KISAN scheme, eligible farmers must update their Aadhaar number, bank account number, and contact details on the official website. Farmers who have not yet registered can do so by approaching the nearest village-level officials for guidance on registration. A list of 286 newly registered farmers is being sent for field verification, and eligibility assessments are ongoing across all taluks.
Revenue officials, agricultural department staff, and other authorities participated in a meeting where the implementation of these schemes was discussed in detail. The efforts to provide crop insurance and support farmers are ongoing, and the authorities are committed to ensuring all eligible farmers receive the benefits of the PMFBY and PM-KISAN schemes.
