In a detailed statement, Tamil Nadu Minister for Water Resources, Duraimurugan, categorically dismissed the allegations linking the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party to the individual arrested in the Anna University student case. The Minister asserted that there is no connection between the DMK and the accused in the ongoing case, and he criticized the opposition parties for attempting to make baseless and frivolous claims. According to Duraimurugan, such political tactics were meant to mislead the public and divert attention from the real issues at hand. He termed these actions by the opposition as "cheap political games" that lacked substance.
The controversy surrounding the case involves the arrest of a student in relation to an incident at Anna University, which has sparked widespread media coverage. However, Duraimurugan made it clear that the DMK had no involvement in the matter, refuting any suggestions of political influence or backing. He further stated that the party’s focus remained on serving the people of Tamil Nadu through its governance and developmental projects.
In addition to this, Duraimurugan also addressed the comments made by Anbumani Ramadoss, the leader of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), regarding reservations. Anbumani had earlier remarked that the PMK would extend unconditional support to any government that implemented a reservation policy. In his response, Duraimurugan stated that the DMK had no concerns about Anbumani's remarks and dismissed them as irrelevant to the ongoing political discourse. He emphasized that the DMK had its own approach to governance and social justice, which focused on improving the lives of the marginalized sections of society. The Minister further pointed out that the DMK had already been working on policies for inclusive growth, and it would continue to do so, regardless of such outside comments.
The Minister's remarks were made during the inauguration of a part-time ration shop in Jangkalapalli, a village near Vellore, as part of the government's ongoing efforts to improve public welfare services. Duraimurugan was the special guest at the ceremony, where he took the opportunity to speak about the government's focus on ensuring that basic needs like ration distribution reach the people. He also touched on several issues related to the implementation of public welfare schemes and the government's efforts to alleviate the challenges faced by rural populations.
At the event, Duraimurugan reassured the people of Vellore and the surrounding areas that the DMK government was committed to fulfilling its promises. He emphasized that the government’s main goal was to serve the public by providing essential services and implementing welfare schemes effectively. He further elaborated that the DMK party had always prioritized public welfare over political conflicts and distractions.
