As snowfall continues, the government urges all travelers to remain cautious, follow safety instructions, and avoid risky trekking routes.

Kedarnath, Uttarakhand – June 4:

The sacred town of Kedarnath, located in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district, experienced fresh snowfall early Tuesday morning, transforming the holy site and surrounding Himalayan ranges into a breathtaking winter landscape. The snowfall, which began in the early hours, intensified throughout the morning, bringing a sudden dip in temperature and delighting pilgrims and tourists present in the area.

Kedarnath Temple, one of the most revered Char Dham pilgrimage sites, is situated at an altitude of 11,755 feet. The region is known for its unpredictable weather, and this recent snowfall adds to the challenges as well as the allure of the pilgrimage. Pilgrims arriving for darshan were seen braving the cold weather, capturing the stunning views, and participating in rituals amidst the snow-covered environment.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted more snowfall in the region over the next 24 to 48 hours, urging tourists and pilgrims to stay updated with weather alerts. With temperatures dropping to sub-zero levels, the IMD has advised people to dress warmly and avoid unnecessary travel during peak snowfall hours.

Local authorities and the Uttarakhand Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are on high alert to ensure the safety of pilgrims. They have deployed personnel along critical trekking paths and areas prone to slipperiness. Shelters and medical camps have been set up in nearby locations to provide assistance in case of any weather-related emergencies. Helicopter services, often used for reaching Kedarnath, are currently being monitored and may be temporarily suspended if weather conditions worsen.

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is actively involved in clearing snow from the access roads and maintaining connectivity to the shrine. While no major disruptions have been reported so far, officials have requested all travelers to check the status of roads and weather conditions before planning their journey.

Due to the heavy snowfall, the district administration has issued travel advisories, especially for elderly pilgrims and those with health issues. They recommend postponing travel until conditions improve, as low visibility and cold exposure may pose health risks.

Despite the challenges, the snowfall has also brought cheer among many visitors. Tourists and photography enthusiasts have been sharing stunning visuals of the snow-clad temple and surrounding peaks on social media. The peaceful, white-covered terrain has enhanced the spiritual atmosphere of the pilgrimage, offering a unique and memorable experience.

The Kedarnath Yatra, which began earlier this season, continues to see steady footfall, though the recent weather may temporarily affect the pace. Authorities continue to coordinate closely with the Indian Meteorological Department and disaster management teams to respond swiftly to any situation.

As snowfall continues, the government urges all travelers to remain cautious, follow safety instructions, and avoid risky trekking routes. All updates related to weather and travel will be regularly provided through official channels.
