Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi has stressed the importance of ensuring the safety and security of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during her visits to India. Speaking to the media, Singhvi highlighted that India, as a responsible neighbor and a leading regional power, has the obligation to provide maximum protection to visiting foreign dignitaries. He stated that given Sheikh Hasina’s prominent role in regional politics, safeguarding her personal security is not only a matter of protocol but also essential to maintain strong diplomatic relations between the two nations.
Singhvi pointed out that the ongoing cooperation between India and Bangladesh spans several areas including trade, energy, border management, and climate resilience. He said that the security of the visiting Prime Minister reflects India’s commitment to uphold mutual respect and trust between the two countries. He further emphasized that any lapse in protection could jeopardize not only diplomatic goodwill but also the larger regional stability that both nations have worked to maintain over the years.
In his statement, Singhvi called on the central and state governments to review and strengthen the existing security arrangements for all foreign dignitaries visiting India. He suggested a detailed assessment of potential risks and the deployment of additional security personnel if necessary. According to him, a proactive approach in security planning ensures that any untoward incidents are prevented and the visiting dignitary can perform official duties without concern for personal safety.
He also highlighted that India has historically maintained robust security measures during visits of high-profile leaders from neighboring countries, but in the current geopolitical context, vigilance must be heightened. Singhvi reiterated that ensuring Sheikh Hasina’s safety is not only a matter of responsibility but also a symbolic gesture affirming India’s diplomatic priorities and strong bilateral relations with Bangladesh.
Additionally, Singhvi encouraged closer coordination between various security agencies, including intelligence, local law enforcement, and central paramilitary forces, to guarantee a comprehensive security plan. He stressed the importance of continuous monitoring and real-time coordination during official visits to address any potential threats promptly.
By safeguarding Sheikh Hasina, Singhvi stated, India sends a clear message about its commitment to peace, cooperation, and regional stability in South Asia. He concluded that security arrangements should reflect the importance India attaches to its neighboring country, reaffirming the strong political, economic, and cultural ties between India and Bangladesh.
The Congress leader’s remarks come amid heightened attention on regional security and the importance of maintaining diplomatic decorum during visits of foreign leaders. Authorities have assured that security protocols are continuously reviewed to provide a safe environment for visiting dignitaries.
