Speaking to reporters and addressing his party members, Yadav claimed that the state administration had failed to respond adequately to the crisis and accused it of being both corrupt and ineffective in its approach to disaster management.

Lucknow, August 4, 2025 – Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has launched a scathing attack on the Uttar Pradesh government for its alleged mishandling of the flood situation affecting several districts in the state. Speaking to reporters and addressing his party members, Yadav claimed that the state administration had failed to respond adequately to the crisis and accused it of being both corrupt and ineffective in its approach to disaster management.

Heavy rainfall over the past few weeks has led to widespread flooding across multiple regions in Uttar Pradesh, causing displacement, damage to infrastructure, and loss of crops. Villages in districts such as Gonda, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, and parts of Eastern UP remain inundated, with thousands of families seeking shelter in temporary camps.

Yadav expressed concern over what he termed a “complete lack of preparedness” by the state government, despite early warnings from meteorological departments. He accused officials of making empty announcements while failing to implement any real relief measures on the ground. “The people of Uttar Pradesh are left to fend for themselves while the government remains focused on publicity and politics,” he said.

The former Chief Minister also criticized the condition of rural roads, embankments, and drainage systems, claiming that years of neglect and corruption in public works had worsened the flood impact. “If the government had invested in proper infrastructure, many of these areas could have been saved from such devastation,” Yadav stated.

He further alleged that flood-affected families are receiving neither food supplies nor medical aid in several districts. Videos and reports from local Samajwadi Party workers were cited, showing stranded residents without basic necessities. Yadav demanded that the state launch a coordinated response involving the disaster relief force, health services, and local panchayats, and that immediate compensation be offered to those who lost homes, crops, and livelihoods.

The UP government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has claimed that relief efforts are underway and that over 200 relief camps have been set up. However, opposition parties, including the Samajwadi Party, allege that aid is insufficient and poorly managed.

Political observers note that Yadav’s sharp comments reflect growing public dissatisfaction in rural areas where floods are a recurring challenge. The issue is expected to become a major topic in upcoming state-level political debates, especially with local elections approaching.

Akhilesh Yadav ended his remarks by calling on the people of Uttar Pradesh to hold the government accountable for its failure to protect vulnerable populations during natural disasters. He said the state needs leadership that prioritizes public welfare over political gains and added that only strong and transparent governance can prevent such crises from repeating year after year.

The situation remains critical in several districts as weather agencies continue to forecast further rainfall in parts of the state.

“The people of Uttar Pradesh are left to fend for themselves while the government remains focused on publicity and politics,” he said.
