Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has stirred a fresh political debate by alleging that the national capital’s education system has once again come under the control of an “Education Mafia.” His remarks, made through a public address and on social media, highlight his growing concern over what he claims to be deliberate attempts to derail the educational reforms initiated by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government.
Kejriwal stated, “We worked hard over the last several years to bring real change in government schools, improve infrastructure, and make quality education accessible to every child. But now, Delhi has once again fallen completely into the clutches of the Education Mafia. This is dangerous not just for Delhi but for the future of the country.”
According to the Chief Minister, these alleged forces are trying to reverse the progress made in school infrastructure, teacher training, and curriculum updates. He claimed that vested interests are attempting to reintroduce profit-oriented models and privatization practices that harm public education.
While Kejriwal did not name any specific individuals or organizations, political observers believe his remarks were aimed at central government agencies and recent administrative changes in the education department. His statement comes at a time when the Delhi government has faced restrictions on policy implementation due to a shift in control of key administrative departments to the Lieutenant Governor’s office, following a Supreme Court ruling.
The Education Mafia, as referred to by Kejriwal, is believed to include private interest groups and lobbyists who allegedly seek to commercialize education and undermine public school systems. Kejriwal has long positioned himself as a strong advocate for government-run schools, often showcasing Delhi’s government schools as a model for other states.
Kejriwal urged citizens, educators, and parents to remain vigilant and united in preserving the educational reforms. He emphasized the need for a transparent, inclusive, and child-focused education policy that prioritizes students over profits.
The opposition has criticized Kejriwal’s statement, calling it politically motivated. However, AAP leaders have stood by the Chief Minister’s remarks, stating that the party remains committed to protecting Delhi’s education system.
As the issue unfolds, it is expected to become a key topic in upcoming political debates, especially with elections approaching. The broader public response and any action from government bodies in the coming days will determine how this situation develops.
