The Government of Assam has continued its efforts to encourage entrepreneurship and self employment through the Atmanirbhar Asom Abhijan programme. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently disbursed financial assistance worth 131 crore rupees to 12976 entrepreneurs as part of the second tranche of the Atmanirbhar Asom Abhijan 1.0 scheme.
The programme is aimed at promoting economic self reliance among the youth of Assam by providing financial support to individuals who want to start their own businesses or expand existing ventures. The scheme focuses particularly on young people who have entrepreneurial ideas but may not have access to traditional bank loans due to lack of collateral or financial resources.
During the distribution event, the Chief Minister stated that the government is committed to creating opportunities for young entrepreneurs and strengthening the local economy. According to officials, the scheme provides financial assistance in stages so that beneficiaries can gradually build sustainable businesses and generate employment in their communities.
The Atmanirbhar Asom Abhijan was introduced by the Assam government to encourage innovation, small business development and local economic growth. Under the programme, eligible applicants receive financial support along with guidance related to entrepreneurship and business management.
Officials said that the initiative also aims to reduce unemployment by motivating young people to become job creators instead of job seekers. Beneficiaries come from different sectors including agriculture related businesses, food processing, retail trade, services and small scale manufacturing.
The second tranche of financial assistance was distributed to nearly thirteen thousand entrepreneurs who had previously received the first phase of support and met the requirements set by the programme. Authorities said the funds are intended to help them expand their operations, purchase equipment or strengthen their working capital.
The Assam government has stated that the long term goal of the Atmanirbhar Asom Abhijan is to benefit around ten lakh individuals across the state. By supporting small enterprises and local businesses, the administration hopes to stimulate economic activity in both urban and rural areas.
Officials believe that programmes like this can help strengthen Assam’s local economy by encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship. Small businesses are often considered the backbone of regional economic development because they generate employment opportunities and contribute to community level growth.
The government also plans to continue monitoring the progress of beneficiaries to ensure that the funds are used effectively. Training and support initiatives may also be introduced in the future to help entrepreneurs improve business skills and expand their market reach.
With financial support being provided in multiple stages, authorities hope that the scheme will help create a strong network of successful entrepreneurs across Assam. The initiative reflects the state government’s broader focus on promoting economic development and empowering young people through entrepreneurship.
