As polling dates approach, the effectiveness of these campaigns in NCR could be a critical factor in determining electoral outcomes in Bihar, demonstrating the increasing interconnection between state elections and migrant voter influence.

New Delhi / Bihar:

The battle for Bihar’s upcoming assembly elections has extended beyond the state’s borders, reaching the National Capital Region (NCR) where a large population of migrant workers from Bihar resides. Political parties are increasingly targeting these communities to influence electoral outcomes, highlighting governance, employment, and development agendas.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s allies, has emphasized its governance record, referring to it as ‘Sushasan’. The alliance is showcasing achievements in infrastructure, social welfare schemes, law and order, and COVID-19 management as proof of effective administration. NDA leaders are reaching out to migrant workers in Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, and surrounding areas through community meetings, public rallies, and digital campaigns.

On the other hand, the INDIA bloc, comprising opposition parties including the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress, and regional allies, has adopted an employment-focused campaign, referred to as the ‘Naukri’ pitch. Leaders argue that job creation and economic opportunities are critical issues for migrants who have faced challenges during lockdowns and economic slowdowns. The opposition aims to appeal to their sense of economic security and welfare to secure votes.

Political analysts observe that migrant voters from Bihar in NCR form a significant constituency, whose preferences could influence results in several key assembly seats. Campaigning in NCR has therefore become a priority for both the NDA and opposition parties, reflecting a shift toward targeted outreach beyond traditional geographic boundaries.

Community organizations, welfare groups, and local leaders are playing an active role in these campaigns. Meetings are often held in residential clusters, places of worship, and community centers, where parties present development programs, address grievances, and seek support for their candidates. Digital outreach through social media and messaging apps is also being used to engage with younger migrant voters.

The strategy highlights the evolving nature of Indian electoral politics, where non-resident voters are increasingly considered a crucial segment for influencing election outcomes. Both alliances recognize that migration patterns, economic concerns, and local connectivity impact voter choices and can sway tight contests.

While NDA emphasizes governance continuity and achievements, the INDIA bloc focuses on livelihood, job creation, and addressing economic grievances of the migrant population. Analysts predict that this dual approach could intensify competition and influence voter sentiment ahead of the elections.

The campaigns in NCR also reflect broader electoral trends, where political parties aim to mobilize voters through issue-based outreach, combining development narratives with economic incentives. The engagement of migrant communities underscores their rising significance as a voting bloc in Bihar’s political landscape.

As polling dates approach, the effectiveness of these campaigns in NCR could be a critical factor in determining electoral outcomes in Bihar, demonstrating the increasing interconnection between state elections and migrant voter influence.
