BJP Accuses Congress of Repeatedly Betraying Backward Classes, Questions Party's Commitment to Social Justice

The BJP claimed that despite ruling the country for several decades, Congress failed to implement policies that would meaningfully uplift backward communities.

In a sharp political attack, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Congress party of a long history of neglect and betrayal towards the Other Backward Classes (OBCs). The remarks were made by senior BJP leaders during recent press interactions and public meetings, where they alleged that Congress has repeatedly used OBC communities as a political tool without offering them real empowerment.

The BJP claimed that despite ruling the country for several decades, Congress failed to implement policies that would meaningfully uplift backward communities. According to BJP leaders, even significant constitutional steps to strengthen the OBC community were either delayed or diluted under Congress-led governments.

The attack is being viewed as part of a broader political strategy ahead of upcoming elections, where caste-based issues, particularly OBC representation and welfare, are likely to play a significant role. BJP leaders pointed to various initiatives launched under the current central government, such as the formation of the OBC Commission and the expansion of reservations in educational institutions and public employment, as proof of their party's commitment to social equity.

Addressing a rally, a senior BJP spokesperson stated, “Congress has historically ignored the needs of backward communities and only remembers them during elections. It has failed to give constitutional status to OBC-related bodies and has blocked several welfare schemes in the past.”

The BJP further criticized Congress for not conducting a caste census during its tenure and alleged that its reluctance to acknowledge the real social and economic conditions of backward communities is evidence of political opportunism. “Their promises are superficial. When they had the power, they failed to act. Now they seek votes in the name of the same people they sidelined,” another BJP leader remarked.

The Congress party has not yet issued an official statement in response to these accusations. However, party sources have indicated that Congress is committed to the welfare of all marginalized communities, including OBCs, and that the BJP is attempting to divert attention from current socio-economic issues through such allegations.

Political analysts suggest that the current war of words reflects the growing importance of OBC voters in national politics. Both national parties have ramped up their outreach to backward classes, aiming to secure a greater share of the electoral base in states where caste-based politics plays a central role.

The exchange also comes at a time when several regional parties are calling for greater representation for backward communities and advocating for the release of updated caste census data. This has reignited debates around reservation, economic inclusion, and political representation.

As the political narrative around backward classes gains momentum, parties across the spectrum are expected to continue engaging with these issues more prominently. The BJP’s attack on Congress highlights how deeply caste politics remains intertwined with electoral strategies in Indian democracy.

According to BJP leaders, even significant constitutional steps to strengthen the OBC community were either delayed or diluted under Congress-led governments.
