Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and senior Tamil Nadu politician Nainar Nagenthran has clarified that the issue of accommodating AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran and former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam (OPS) into the BJP-AIADMK alliance will be jointly addressed by both parties. His remarks come at a time when discussions about possible reshuffling and realignment in the state's political alliances are gaining momentum.
In a media interaction, Nainar Nagenthran stated that the BJP would not take unilateral decisions on sensitive political matters involving allies. "Any decision regarding the inclusion or exclusion of leaders like TTV Dhinakaran or OPS will be discussed and finalised in mutual consultation with the AIADMK leadership," he said.
This statement gains significance in light of recent developments in Tamil Nadu politics, where both TTV Dhinakaran and OPS have shown signs of political re-engagement. While neither leader has officially announced an alliance or return to the mainstream AIADMK fold, their independent political moves have sparked speculation about potential alliances, especially with the Lok Sabha elections approaching.
Nagenthran also reaffirmed BJP’s commitment to strengthening the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tamil Nadu. He added that the party’s focus remains on providing a united front to challenge the ruling DMK and promote development-oriented politics in the state.
Political analysts suggest that the inclusion of OPS or Dhinakaran could significantly impact voter dynamics in certain constituencies, particularly where they retain individual influence. However, their entry into a coalition will also require internal balancing and negotiation with existing alliance partners.
Meanwhile, AIADMK leaders have maintained cautious silence over the matter, neither confirming nor denying any talks. Sources suggest that sections within AIADMK are divided on re-accepting OPS, who had a fallout with the party leadership following his ouster. Similarly, TTV Dhinakaran’s association with the AMMK and his previous electoral battles against the AIADMK may pose hurdles for a smooth return.
Nagenthran’s statement appears aimed at projecting unity and strategic alignment within the NDA, while also keeping the doors open for political manoeuvring. As Tamil Nadu politics continues to evolve, all eyes remain on the decisions taken by key parties and leaders in the coming weeks.
