New Delhi:

In a move aimed at maintaining social harmony and reinforcing its commitment to inclusiveness, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has issued a clear directive to its party members and spokespersons to refrain from making loose or derogatory remarks regarding Dalit communities or the reservation system.

Sources within the party confirmed that the leadership has expressed concern over recent instances where off-the-cuff comments by certain leaders have drawn public backlash and media attention. With elections around the corner and caste dynamics playing a critical role in many states, the BJP is making efforts to prevent any controversy that could potentially alienate key voter segments, especially Scheduled Castes (SCs).

A senior BJP leader stated, “The party is very clear that the Constitution must be respected in letter and spirit. Any statement against Dalits or the quota system goes against the foundational principles of social justice. Such comments can damage the party’s image and disturb the social fabric.”

The internal advisory reportedly stresses that leaders, especially those speaking at public events or on television debates, must exercise caution and discipline. They have been urged to focus on the party’s development agenda and its commitment to uplifting marginalized communities, rather than making statements that could be interpreted as divisive or discriminatory.

This guidance is seen as a strategic move ahead of state elections and the 2024 general elections, where Dalit votes could be a deciding factor in multiple regions. The BJP has been working over the years to broaden its base among Dalit voters, with increased outreach programs, symbolic gestures, and prominent Dalit leaders in its ranks.

Political analysts believe this advisory reflects the BJP’s growing awareness of the importance of political messaging and the need to maintain a clean image on sensitive issues. “This is a damage-control mechanism as well as a proactive step to ensure party unity and discipline,” noted one observer.

Meanwhile, opposition parties have often accused the BJP of harboring casteist elements, a charge the party strongly denies. By issuing this directive, the BJP aims to counter such narratives and project itself as a party that upholds equality and constitutional values.

The party has also warned that disciplinary action may be taken against any leader who violates this directive and brings embarrassment to the party.

This development underlines how political communication is being tightly managed in today’s hyper-aware media environment, especially on subjects as sensitive as caste and social justice.
