BJP Slams Congress Over Inaction on National Security, Credits PM Modi for Strong Response

Congress leaders said their government had also taken action against terrorism and accused the BJP of using national security as a tool for electoral gains.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a sharp attack on the Congress party, alleging that it failed to take meaningful action against those who attacked India’s security and sovereignty during its tenure. BJP leaders asserted that it is under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership that decisive steps have been taken to ensure justice for such acts.

At a press briefing in New Delhi, senior BJP leaders pointed to multiple incidents of cross-border terrorism and internal security threats that occurred during the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) regime, claiming that the Congress-led government lacked the political will to respond firmly. They accused the opposition party of adopting a “soft” stance on issues of national security, which, they say, emboldened adversaries.

“Under the UPA, terror incidents went unanswered. There was no strong response or accountability. Prime Minister Modi has changed that narrative entirely,” a BJP spokesperson said. Citing actions such as surgical strikes and the Balakot airstrike, the party credited the Modi government with adopting a proactive and deterrent approach to terrorism.

The BJP also highlighted legislative and policy measures introduced in recent years, including strengthening the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), tighter border surveillance, and modernising the armed forces. According to party officials, these steps have contributed to a safer, more secure India and sent a clear message that attacks on the nation will not go unpunished.

Responding to criticism from the Congress about the politicisation of national security, the BJP said that ensuring justice for victims and preventing future attacks should not be viewed through a political lens. “This is about national interest, not party interest,” said the spokesperson.

Meanwhile, the Congress party has pushed back against these allegations, calling them an attempt to divert attention from current economic and social issues. Congress leaders said their government had also taken action against terrorism and accused the BJP of using national security as a tool for electoral gains.

Political analysts observe that national security remains a key talking point in the ongoing election campaign, with both major parties attempting to shape the public narrative. While the BJP continues to focus on its record of decisive action and strong leadership, the Congress has emphasized institutional reforms and long-term stability.

As the election season intensifies, such exchanges are expected to grow sharper, reflecting the broader battle of narratives between the ruling party and the opposition.
