The Congress party has expressed serious concerns about the surge in cases filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) under the present government, accusing it of indulging in a "blatant witch-hunting" campaign against opposition leaders. In a statement issued recently, Congress spokespersons questioned the rising number of ED investigations, pointing out that the conviction rate remains alarmingly low despite the large number of cases. They argued that such a scenario raises questions about the fairness of the legal process and whether these cases are truly based on merit or are politically motivated.

The Congress leadership believes that the ED has become a tool for political vendetta, especially after several opposition leaders, including key figures within their party, faced probes. They further emphasized that while numerous cases have been filed, the lack of substantial convictions suggests that many of these investigations are either unsubstantiated or part of a larger strategy to malign and silence political rivals.

Congress has demanded that the government ensure a transparent and unbiased process, where agencies like the ED are not used as instruments to intimidate and suppress political dissent. The party called for reforms in how such agencies function to restore public trust in the justice system. The remarks come in the wake of several high-profile ED cases involving opposition leaders, sparking debates across the political spectrum.
