During the Parliament session held to discuss the outcomes and implications of Operation Sindoor, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a strong and clear statement on India’s stance regarding ceasefire decisions with Pakistan. The Prime Minister asserted that such decisions are India's internal matters and are made entirely based on national interest, without the involvement of any third-party mediation.
The discussion on Operation Sindoor, a significant internal security operation undertaken in Jammu and Kashmir, attracted nationwide attention following increased military activity and security operations along the Line of Control. Opposition parties had raised concerns about transparency and the government’s broader diplomatic strategy, especially in relation to Pakistan.
Responding to these concerns, PM Modi emphasized that India does not accept interference or mediation from any foreign country or international body when it comes to bilateral issues, especially involving national security. “India’s sovereignty is not negotiable. The decision to initiate, maintain, or conclude a ceasefire with Pakistan is completely our own. It reflects our strategic priorities and our assessment of the ground situation,” he said.
The Prime Minister also addressed the broader goals of Operation Sindoor, stating that it was launched to eliminate cross-border threats and secure civilian lives in vulnerable regions. He praised the armed forces for their courage and effectiveness in carrying out the mission. “Our security forces have acted with restraint and resolve. The operation has sent a clear message to all who threaten our peace,” Modi stated.
On the matter of relations with Pakistan, PM Modi reiterated that India seeks peace but not at the cost of security. He mentioned that India remains open to dialogue, but only in an environment free from terror and cross-border violations. “We have always maintained that peace can only be sustained if it is respected by both sides. Unfortunately, Pakistan has a long record of supporting hostile activities, and we cannot overlook this reality,” he said.
The Prime Minister's remarks were met with strong support from members of the treasury benches, while the Opposition demanded more clarity on the long-term strategy for border management and conflict resolution. Some opposition leaders also questioned whether diplomatic channels were being explored alongside military operations to ensure sustained peace in the region.
However, PM Modi firmly dismissed any suggestion of backdoor diplomacy or foreign mediation. “There is no room for speculation. Our decisions are guided by the interests of our citizens and the responsibility to protect every inch of Indian territory,” he said.
The statement has been seen as a reaffirmation of India’s traditional position on bilateral issues with Pakistan — that they should be resolved directly between the two countries, without outside influence. Analysts believe that the speech aims to send a strong message both domestically and internationally about India’s firm stance on sovereignty and security policy.
As Parliament continues its session, Operation Sindoor remains a focal point for debates on national security, diplomacy, and internal stability.
