The Congress party on Saturday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is attempting to defame the ongoing Opposition Yatra, which is being carried out to highlight public issues and strengthen grassroots-level engagement. According to Congress leaders, the Yatra has gained significant momentum among people across regions, prompting the ruling party to launch counter campaigns aimed at undermining its credibility.
Senior Congress leaders stated that the primary objective of the Yatra is to raise awareness about problems faced by citizens, including unemployment, rising prices, farmers’ concerns, and issues of social justice. They emphasized that the initiative is not just a political march but a broader effort to reach ordinary people and listen to their grievances.
Party spokespersons accused the BJP of spreading misinformation and attempting to divert attention from the Yatra’s success. They claimed that the ruling party is uncomfortable with the Opposition’s efforts to unite people on common issues and is therefore resorting to criticism and discrediting tactics.
“The BJP is trying to defame the Opposition Yatra because they fear its growing impact,” one Congress leader said. “Instead of engaging with the real concerns of the people, they are choosing to create distractions.”
The Yatra, according to Congress, is designed to bring together various voices from across the country in a collective demand for better governance, economic stability, and social harmony. Leaders participating in the march have been addressing public meetings, holding discussions with local communities, and emphasizing the need for accountability in government policies.
Congress has also accused the BJP of using government machinery and media narratives to create hurdles for the Opposition Yatra. They argued that despite such challenges, public participation has remained strong, with citizens showing enthusiasm to engage with the leaders on ground-level issues.
Observers note that political marches and yatras have historically played an important role in Indian politics, often used as tools to mobilize public opinion and strengthen a party’s presence in different states. With elections approaching in several regions, the Opposition Yatra is seen as an attempt to energize supporters and build a counter-narrative to the BJP’s dominance.
The BJP, however, has dismissed the Congress’s claims, calling the Yatra a political stunt aimed at reviving the party’s waning influence. Ruling party leaders argue that the Congress should focus on internal unity and organizational challenges instead of blaming others for its shortcomings.
Despite the war of words, Congress leaders remain firm that the Yatra will continue as planned, reiterating that it represents the voice of the people rather than the interests of any single party. They stressed that the aim is to highlight national concerns, create awareness among citizens, and push for solutions that address the challenges faced by millions of families.
As the Yatra moves forward, political analysts suggest that the contest over narratives between Congress and BJP will intensify. While BJP projects stability and governance, Congress is focusing on issues of livelihood and social justice. The outcome of this clash of perspectives is likely to influence the political mood in the coming months.
