The Congress party has called for immediate action against Noida District Magistrate (DM) Suhas L.Y. after a controversial social media post from his account referred to party leader Rahul Gandhi as ‘Pappu.’ The term, often used pejoratively by political opponents, sparked outrage within the Congress, with the party accusing the DM of political bias and inappropriate conduct for a serving government official.
The now-deleted post, which appeared on one of the DM's social media platforms, was seen as mocking Rahul Gandhi’s leadership and political standing. Congress leaders were quick to react, calling the post highly derogatory and questioning the impartiality of government officials tasked with public service. They demanded strict disciplinary action against the DM, alleging that such remarks from an official position undermine the decorum expected from civil servants.
"The comments made on Rahul Gandhi from a government official’s account are unacceptable and unbecoming of the position he holds. We demand an immediate inquiry and appropriate action against the DM. Such bias should not be tolerated in public service," said a senior Congress leader.
The DM’s office has since clarified that the post was an inadvertent mistake and claimed that his account was hacked. However, the explanation has not pacified Congress, with party members insisting on a thorough investigation to determine the source of the offensive comment.
Political opponents, meanwhile, have pointed out that the term ‘Pappu’ has long been associated with attempts to belittle Rahul Gandhi’s political career.
