Reports indicate that the Congress may also discuss plans for mass campaigns, issue-based outreach, and youth engagement drives in the run-up to elections.

Ahmedabad:

In what is being described as a key moment in the Congress party’s revival journey, a senior leader on Sunday referred to the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Ahmedabad as a “turning point” for the party. The high-level meeting includes Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, former party chief Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and other senior members who have convened to deliberate on crucial strategic and organizational issues.

The meeting comes at a time when the Congress is looking to consolidate its position ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, strengthen state units, and boost grassroots-level connectivity. Key agendas include candidate selection strategy, alliance considerations with like-minded parties, and refining the party's national narrative to counter the BJP.

Speaking to reporters, a senior Congress functionary said, “This CWC is more than just a routine meeting. It is a turning point in how we position ourselves moving forward. We are focusing on unity, structure, and outreach—both internal and external.”

The choice of Ahmedabad as the venue is also symbolic, with Gujarat being the political stronghold of the BJP. Congress leaders believe that holding the CWC here sends a message of confidence and intent to reclaim ground in regions where the party has lost momentum in recent years.

Reports indicate that the Congress may also discuss plans for mass campaigns, issue-based outreach, and youth engagement drives in the run-up to elections. Internal reforms, accountability measures, and leadership training for local-level cadres are also likely to be finalized during this session.

Political analysts say that the party’s ability to rejuvenate itself organizationally and connect with voters on real issues such as inflation, unemployment, and social justice will determine how impactful this “turning point” truly becomes.

The outcome of the CWC meeting is expected to set the tone for Congress’s national campaign and alliances over the coming months.

Internal reforms, accountability measures, and leadership training for local-level cadres are also likely to be finalized during this session.
