The Congress party has sharply criticized the government for what it calls “security lapses and intelligence failure” following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, which resulted in multiple casualties. The attack, which targeted a group of tourists, has raised serious questions about the safety of visitors to the region and the effectiveness of the government’s security and intelligence agencies in preventing such incidents.
Speaking at a press conference, senior Congress leaders emphasized that the attack was preventable and that the failure to act on available intelligence had led to the tragic loss of lives. "The Pahalgam attack could have been avoided if the government had taken necessary precautions. This reflects serious lapses in security arrangements and a failure of the intelligence apparatus," said a Congress spokesperson.
The party’s leaders also pointed out that incidents of this nature were becoming more frequent, and the government had not taken adequate measures to address the growing security concerns in Jammu and Kashmir. "The government’s claims of restoring peace and normalcy in the region ring hollow when such attacks continue to occur. There has been no comprehensive strategy to safeguard tourists or locals," the Congress leader added.
The Congress party has called for an independent investigation into the attack to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice. The party also urged the government to review the security protocols in place at popular tourist destinations like Pahalgam and improve coordination between intelligence agencies and local law enforcement.
In response to the Congress’s allegations, the government has assured the public that it is taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety of both locals and tourists. A spokesperson from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) condemned the attack and reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening security in Jammu and Kashmir. "The safety of our citizens and visitors is of paramount importance. We are continuously working to enhance security measures and intelligence gathering," the BJP spokesperson stated.
Meanwhile, security forces have increased their presence in the region following the attack. Police and paramilitary forces are conducting intensified operations in sensitive areas, and additional security checkpoints have been set up to prevent further incidents.
As investigations into the Pahalgam attack continue, political debates around security measures and intelligence failures are expected to intensify, with both the opposition and the government focusing on ensuring that such tragedies do not occur again.
