Internal differences within the Congress party came into focus once again after senior leader Sandeep Dikshit commented on the absence of Kerala MP Shashi Tharoor from an important meeting related to preparations for the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections. The meeting, held to discuss election strategy and organisational readiness, was attended by several senior leaders from the state.
Speaking to the media, Dikshit stated that the party’s work would not be affected by the absence of leaders who were not directly involved in election planning. He said that senior and influential leaders from Kerala were present at the meeting and actively contributing to discussions. According to him, the focus remained on strengthening the party’s position ahead of the state elections.
Dikshit’s remarks came amid reports that Shashi Tharoor, the Thiruvananthapuram Member of Parliament, did not attend the meeting. Tharoor has in recent months been perceived as being less involved in organisational decision making within the party, particularly in Kerala. His absence from the meeting has once again drawn attention to ongoing internal dynamics within the Congress.
The Congress leader stated that attendance by key organisational figures was more important than the presence of every senior leader. He added that the party was concentrating on unity and effective campaign planning rather than individual participation. Dikshit emphasised that the Congress remained confident of presenting a strong challenge in the Kerala elections.
Shashi Tharoor, a four time MP and senior leader, has maintained a distinct public profile within the Congress, often expressing views on national and international issues. While he continues to be a prominent face in public discourse, his role in state level party organisation has been the subject of discussion within political circles.
Political analysts note that the Congress is facing the challenge of balancing senior leadership roles while energising its organisational structure at the state level. Kerala remains a key battleground for the party, where it competes primarily with the Left Democratic Front and the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The Congress leadership has repeatedly stated that it is focused on strengthening grassroots networks, addressing local issues, and projecting a united front ahead of the elections. Party sources indicate that further meetings and consultations will be held in the coming weeks to finalise campaign strategies and candidate selection.
As preparations intensify, internal coordination and messaging are expected to play a critical role in shaping the Congress campaign in Kerala. The latest remarks underline the importance the party places on organisational discipline and collective effort as it moves closer to the polls.
