The report details how various states in the region have seen underperformance in critical sectors like infrastructure, healthcare, and education, despite the government's promises of growth and modernization.

Congress Member of Parliament Gaurav Gogoi has launched a scathing attack on the NDA governments in the Northeast, accusing the BJP-led administrations of prioritizing political gains over genuine development. Gogoi, who represents Assam, claimed that the concept of "Vikas" (development) has been co-opted by the BJP, and it is being selectively implemented for political advantage, especially in regions where the party faces strong competition.

Gogoi referred to a recent report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), which highlights significant shortcomings in the development initiatives of the BJP-led governments in the Northeast. The report details how various states in the region have seen underperformance in critical sectors like infrastructure, healthcare, and education, despite the government's promises of growth and modernization. According to the ADR, the BJP's focus has primarily been on consolidating political power rather than addressing the pressing developmental needs of the people.

The Congress leader also pointed out the disparity in resource allocation, with some states in the region allegedly receiving more attention than others, further deepening the sense of neglect among certain communities. Gogoi argued that while the BJP claims to be fostering development, the reality on the ground tells a different story, with many areas still grappling with poor connectivity, unemployment, and inadequate healthcare services.

Gaurav Gogoi’s criticism also comes ahead of upcoming elections in the Northeast, where the BJP is trying to consolidate its position in several states. Gogoi accused the ruling party of using development slogans to maintain a grip on power while ignoring the actual challenges faced by local populations. He stressed that the Congress party would continue to fight for equitable development for all regions, with a particular focus on addressing the issues identified in the ADR report.

The BJP, however, dismissed these allegations, stating that the party has been working diligently to promote inclusive development across the Northeast. The party emphasized its efforts in building critical infrastructure and promoting peace and stability in a region that has long faced ethnic tensions and insurgency issues.

This latest exchange of accusations reflects the ongoing political rivalry between Congress and the BJP, with the Northeast region becoming a key battleground in national politics. Both parties are expected to intensify their campaigns as state elections approach, with development and governance likely to be key issues for voters.
