In a move aimed at ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the electoral process, Congress Member of Parliament (MP) Gaurav Gogoi has filed a motion in the Lok Sabha to discuss the verification of Electors' Photo Identity Cards (EPIC). Gogoi expressed concerns about the current verification process, questioning its transparency and reliability in maintaining an accurate voter list.
The motion, which seeks a thorough discussion on the EPIC verification process, highlights the importance of accurate voter registration ahead of the upcoming elections. Gogoi pointed out several issues that have been raised regarding discrepancies in voter rolls, including duplicate registrations and errors in personal details. These issues, he argues, could affect the legitimacy of elections and hinder voters from exercising their rights.
The Congress MP emphasized that proper verification of EPICs is crucial to ensuring that only eligible voters are included in the electoral list. This move comes at a time when political parties and election authorities are under increased scrutiny regarding the credibility of the voter registration process.
Gogoi's call for a debate on EPIC verification is aimed at addressing these concerns and ensuring that any irregularities are identified and rectified before elections. He further suggested that the Election Commission take necessary steps to ensure that all eligible voters are accurately registered and that the integrity of the electoral system is upheld.
The discussion in the Lok Sabha is expected to shed light on the challenges faced in the EPIC verification process, and may lead to recommendations for reforms or improved procedures. Gogoi’s motion reflects the Congress party's broader concerns about electoral integrity and the need for transparent and reliable election procedures. This move also underscores the ongoing focus on electoral reforms and the push for a more accountable and fair election process in India.
