The Congress party has reaffirmed its commitment to the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir's statehood, declaring it a top priority in their political agenda. Party leaders emphasized that returning J&K to full statehood is crucial for safeguarding the democratic rights and autonomy of the region’s people.
During a recent address, senior Congress leaders stated that the party would push for statehood restoration both in Parliament and through public outreach. The move comes after the central government’s decision to revoke J&K's special status under Article 370 and bifurcate the state into two union territories in August 2019. Congress leaders argue that restoring statehood is essential for addressing the political aspirations and governance needs of the region.
The party also highlighted that this demand is not just a political maneuver but a fundamental step toward restoring the democratic framework in Jammu and Kashmir. Congress leaders expressed their concern over the prolonged period of central rule and lack of elected representatives governing the region. They vowed to continue raising the issue at all political platforms, underscoring the importance of restoring normalcy, peace, and political stability to the area.
This commitment to statehood restoration is expected to be a key talking point for Congress in future elections, with party leaders urging the central government to take immediate steps towards reinstating Jammu and Kashmir’s full statehood.
