The Congress party has raised concerns over China’s recent claim that it has played a role in mediating conflicts in the region, calling the statement troubling and demanding a clear response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The opposition party said such claims, if left unaddressed, could create confusion about India’s diplomatic position and affect national interests.

Senior Congress leaders stated that foreign policy and national security are sensitive issues that require openness and accountability. They urged the central government to clarify whether China had any role in mediation involving India or its neighboring countries. According to the party, silence on such matters may weaken India’s diplomatic credibility on the global stage.

The Congress also highlighted that India has traditionally followed an independent foreign policy and resolved international issues through bilateral dialogue and established diplomatic channels. Party leaders said any suggestion of external mediation, especially by China, raises serious questions given the complex relationship between India and China, including unresolved border disputes.

The opposition further emphasized that Parliament should be informed about any developments related to foreign mediation claims. They argued that democratic accountability demands that the government explain its position clearly to the public and lawmakers. Congress leaders also stressed that India’s sovereignty and strategic autonomy must be protected at all costs.

In response to the controversy, political analysts noted that statements made by foreign governments can often have broader diplomatic implications. They said it is important for the Indian government to promptly address such claims to avoid misunderstandings at the international level. Analysts also pointed out that clarity helps reinforce India’s stance on resolving disputes without third-party involvement.

The Congress party reiterated that the Prime Minister, as the head of the government, should personally clarify the issue. They said the matter is not about political differences but about safeguarding national interest and maintaining India’s established foreign policy principles.

So far, the government has not issued a detailed response to the concerns raised by the opposition. Observers believe that an official clarification would help dispel speculation and reaffirm India’s position on international mediation. The issue continues to draw attention as debates around foreign policy, diplomacy, and regional stability remain central to national discourse.
