He did not provide detailed evidence to support the claim but emphasized that his administration was instrumental in encouraging restraint and dialogue between the two countries.

United States President Donald Trump has once again reiterated his claim that he played a key role in facilitating peace between India and Pakistan during his tenure. According to public records, this marks the 22nd time he has made the assertion in the last 65 days, bringing renewed attention to the issue on both sides of the border.

Speaking at a campaign rally, Trump said that under his leadership, tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors were significantly reduced. He claimed that his intervention and diplomatic efforts helped prevent a larger conflict, and that both India and Pakistan respected his role during sensitive moments. He did not provide detailed evidence to support the claim but emphasized that his administration was instrumental in encouraging restraint and dialogue between the two countries.

Trump had made similar remarks in the past, particularly during and after the Balakot airstrike incident in 2019. At the time, he had spoken publicly about being in touch with leaders from both countries to prevent escalation. While the US State Department did confirm that diplomatic channels were open, India has consistently maintained that it resolved the crisis independently and without third-party mediation.

The Indian National Congress reacted strongly to Trump’s repeated claims, questioning the need for constant public statements on the issue. Party spokespersons accused Trump of using India-Pakistan relations as a political talking point in the run-up to the US presidential election. They further stated that peace and diplomacy between sovereign nations should not be reduced to campaign narratives.

Congress leaders also criticized the ruling BJP government for not clarifying India's official stance in response to Trump's remarks. They called for the Ministry of External Affairs to issue a firm statement reiterating India’s policy of bilateral resolution of disputes with Pakistan, without external intervention.

Political observers note that Trump’s comments are likely aimed at reinforcing his credentials in foreign policy, particularly among voters who see him as a strong negotiator. However, the repeated references to India and Pakistan have raised concerns about the sensitivity of international diplomacy being drawn into domestic electoral politics.

In the broader geopolitical context, relations between India and Pakistan have remained tense over a range of issues, particularly related to cross-border incidents and Kashmir. While active hostilities have reduced in recent years, the two countries continue to have limited diplomatic engagement. The Line of Control has witnessed periods of calm since the ceasefire agreement in early 2021, which was brokered at a military-to-military level, not publicly attributed to any foreign mediation.

Trump’s repeated statements are now being closely watched by foreign policy experts and government officials in both India and Pakistan. While no official reaction has yet come from the Indian government regarding this latest remark, the topic continues to generate discussion across political and media circles in both countries.
