Parliament must be taken into confidence, and the government should present a clear strategy for peace and security,” he said.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) Politburo member and senior leader MA Baby has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to convene a special session of Parliament to deliberate on the current situation of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. The call comes amid ongoing reports of cross-border incidents and military build-up along the Line of Control and International Border.

Addressing the media, MA Baby emphasized the importance of involving Parliament in discussions concerning national security and foreign policy, especially when the situation threatens to escalate into larger conflict. “Issues of national security and foreign relations should not be decided behind closed doors or through unilateral statements. Parliament must be taken into confidence, and the government should present a clear strategy for peace and security,” he said.

He added that rising hostilities between India and Pakistan pose a serious threat to regional stability and the safety of citizens living in border areas. The CPI(M) leader stated that the government’s approach must prioritize de-escalation, dialogue, and diplomatic channels over military rhetoric.

MA Baby further argued that a democratic country must ensure transparency and accountability in matters of such national importance. “The citizens of India, through their elected representatives, deserve to know the government’s plan to address the growing tension with Pakistan. A special session of Parliament will provide a platform for all political parties to contribute constructively to the discussion,” he noted.

In recent weeks, several incidents along the border have sparked concerns of renewed hostilities, including shelling and ceasefire violations. Civilian lives and infrastructure have reportedly been affected, increasing anxiety among communities in conflict-prone zones. MA Baby warned that ignoring the political and humanitarian implications of such developments would be a grave mistake.

He also called upon the international community to take note of the situation and support peaceful engagement between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. “The global community must encourage both countries to return to the negotiating table, reaffirm the ceasefire agreement, and work towards lasting peace in South Asia,” he added.

The CPI(M) has consistently maintained that dialogue and diplomatic engagement are the only viable routes to resolving Indo-Pak issues. The party has criticized any military-first approach and warned of its long-term consequences on regional peace and economic stability.

As of now, the central government has not issued a response to MA Baby’s demand. Political analysts suggest that the government may be cautious in its public communications due to the sensitivity of the issue. However, pressure is expected to mount if opposition parties unite in demanding parliamentary debate.

MA Baby concluded by urging the Prime Minister to take a proactive and inclusive approach, emphasizing that true leadership involves listening to all sides and engaging in open democratic processes during times of national concern.
