Delhi Assembly Leader of Opposition (LoP) Vijender Gupta has lashed out at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of not doing anything substantial for women in Delhi over the last 10 years. Gupta criticized the Delhi government for failing to address critical issues related to women's safety, healthcare, and empowerment, despite being in power for nearly a decade.
In a recent statement, Gupta claimed that while Kejriwal made numerous promises regarding women’s welfare during his political campaigns, little to no progress had been made in terms of actual policy implementation. Gupta emphasized that the Delhi government had not focused adequately on issues such as women’s security, employment opportunities, and access to resources, which remain key concerns for women in the capital city.
Gupta also pointed out the lack of meaningful programs or financial assistance aimed at supporting women entrepreneurs, particularly in light of the economic challenges faced by women in Delhi. He accused Kejriwal’s government of prioritizing political gains over addressing the real needs of women in the city.
The criticism from Gupta comes at a time when the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is facing growing scrutiny over its governance and policies, with opposition parties highlighting various shortcomings. AAP, on the other hand, has defended its track record, claiming to have implemented several programs for women's welfare, including the Mohalla Clinics initiative and free bus rides for women, among other efforts.
As Delhi heads towards elections, the debate over women’s safety, empowerment, and welfare is likely to play a prominent role, with both the ruling AAP and opposition parties vying to present their agendas for addressing these pressing issues.
