New Delhi:

In a significant statement aimed at highlighting the government’s commitment to inclusive development, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that “Achhe Din” (good days) have finally started for slum-dwellers who have lived in difficult conditions for decades.

Speaking at a public event marking the launch of a new slum redevelopment and rehabilitation project, CM Gupta stated that the current administration is determined to transform the lives of marginalized communities living in informal settlements across the national capital. “For years, these people were neglected. Today, we are witnessing the beginning of real change. Achhe Din is not a slogan anymore—it’s becoming a reality for thousands,” she said.

The project, launched in collaboration with Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB), aims to provide permanent housing units, access to clean drinking water, sanitation facilities, and improved infrastructure in slum clusters. It also includes the development of community spaces, schools, and health centres to ensure holistic growth and empowerment.

CM Gupta emphasized that her government’s policies are focused on inclusive urban development where every citizen, regardless of income, has access to basic amenities and a dignified standard of living. She reiterated her commitment to delivering on promises of housing and social welfare made during the state elections.

Several slum-dwellers, present at the event, expressed their happiness over the initiative, calling it a “dream come true” moment. For many, moving into well-constructed homes after decades of living in cramped and unsanitary conditions marks a turning point in their lives.

Social welfare experts welcomed the move, but urged for sustained efforts and community participation to ensure the long-term success of such redevelopment programs.

The government plans to implement similar projects in multiple zones across Delhi over the next two years, impacting over one lakh urban poor families.

It also includes the development of community spaces, schools, and health centres to ensure holistic growth and empowerment.
