Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has expressed that he was initially hesitant to join the Mahayuti government, despite the growing pressure within his party. In a candid discussion with Shiv Sena leaders, Shinde revealed his initial reluctance to align with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led alliance and form the coalition government.
Shinde, who rebelled against the Shiv Sena leadership in 2022, stated that the decision was not an easy one, as it involved significant political and ideological considerations. He mentioned that while he had his reservations about joining forces with the BJP, he ultimately chose to prioritize Maharashtra’s stability and development.
The Chief Minister’s remarks have sparked interest and speculation within political circles, as they provide an insight into the challenges he faced while forming the coalition. Shinde also stressed the importance of keeping the state’s interests at the forefront, despite the political upheavals that led to the formation of the Mahayuti government.
In the wake of his decision to break away from Shiv Sena founder Uddhav Thackeray, Shinde has worked to consolidate his position within the party and in the government. His statement sheds light on the internal conflicts he navigated during this period, as well as the delicate balancing act required to maintain political alliances.
The Mahayuti government, formed by a coalition of the Shiv Sena, BJP, and other regional parties, has been in power since mid-2022. Despite initial doubts, Shinde's leadership has been crucial in keeping the alliance intact and in addressing the various political and governance challenges that Maharashtra faces.
