The Election Commission of India has taken a significant step towards preparing for upcoming elections by releasing the UP SIR draft voter list 2026. The draft electoral roll was made public on January 6 2026 as part of the annual special summary revision exercise carried out in Uttar Pradesh.
According to the Election Commission a total of 2.89 crore names have been deleted from the previous voter database during this revision. At the same time 12.55 crore voters have been retained as eligible electors in the draft list. The move to remove such a large number of entries has raised attention but officials state that the process is based on field verification and strict data cleaning norms.
The draft voter list is now available for public inspection in both digital and physical formats. Voters in Uttar Pradesh can check whether their names appear correctly in the new roll by visiting the official website eci.gov.in. The electoral data can also be accessed at designated voter facilitation centres polling booths and district election offices.
The Election Commission has announced a detailed schedule for the verification and correction process. The claims and objections period began on January 6 2026 immediately after the draft publication. This window will remain open until February 6 2026. During this one month period citizens can file applications for addition deletion or modification of voter details.
If a voter finds that their name has been removed arbitrarily they can submit Form 6 to request fresh inclusion. For correcting spelling mistakes address changes or other discrepancies voters must file Form 8. Objections related to wrongful entries can be raised using Form 7. All these forms are available free of cost on the website and at offline help centres.
Election officials have clarified that the deletion of 2.89 crore names does not mean that genuine voters have been excluded deliberately. Many of the removed entries belonged to duplicate records shifted residents or deceased persons identified through booth level officers. The Commission says such revisions are essential to maintain the integrity of the democratic process.
After February 6 2026 all received claims and objections will be examined carefully. The Election Commission will conduct hearings where required and update the database based on supporting documents. The final revised electoral roll for Uttar Pradesh will then be published on March 6 2026. This list will serve as the authentic voter database for all elections held after that date.
The UP SIR draft voter list 2026 is part of a nationwide effort by the Election Commission to modernise electoral management. The Commission is encouraging citizens to participate actively in the revision exercise. Special camps are being planned on key dates in January 2026 at polling stations to assist elderly and first time voters.
Voters are advised to complete Aadhaar seeding and mobile number registration to avoid future complications. The Election Commission has also launched voter helpline services to guide citizens on how to track the status of their applications.
The publication of the draft roll marks an important milestone in election preparedness in India. An updated and error free voter list ensures that every eligible citizen gets the right to vote without obstacles. The Election Commission has assured full transparency in the UP SIR voter list 2026 process and has requested people not to rely on political rumours or social media claims.
