Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis launched a sharp attack on Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray ahead of the Mumbai civic body elections, portraying the contest as a high-stakes survival battle for the cousins. During a public event, Fadnavis showcased old video clips of disagreements between the two leaders, emphasizing long-standing rivalries within the Thackeray family. He argued that these internal disputes compromise political stability and questioned the cousins’ ability to govern effectively in Mumbai.
Fadnavis underlined the importance of the Mumbai civic elections, stating that the city, as the financial capital of India, must remain under capable leadership. He reiterated that Mumbai is an integral part of Maharashtra and stressed the role of governance in maintaining the city’s infrastructure, economy, and public services. Highlighting the achievements of the state government, he said the Mahayuti alliance aims to install a mayor aligned with development priorities to ensure efficient administration.
During his address, Fadnavis detailed several initiatives planned for Mumbai, including infrastructure upgrades, modernization of civic services, and measures to attract investment. He emphasized that the administration is committed to improving roads, public transportation, water management, and sanitation to meet the growing demands of the metropolis. The Chief Minister also highlighted economic policies aimed at boosting trade, small businesses, and employment opportunities, presenting a vision of governance-focused leadership.
Fadnavis’ comments focused on contrasting his government’s development agenda with what he termed as the political infighting of the Thackeray cousins. By showing archival footage of disagreements between Uddhav and Raj Thackeray, he sought to underline their perceived lack of cohesion and questioned whether they could prioritize the city’s welfare over personal and familial rivalries.
The Chief Minister asserted that the upcoming Mumbai civic elections would determine the city’s direction for the coming years. He projected that the Mahayuti alliance would secure the mayoral post and implement reforms to make Mumbai more efficient and livable. His speech aimed to consolidate support among voters by linking governance, infrastructure development, and civic improvement with political stability.
Political analysts note that Fadnavis’ strategy appears to focus on highlighting internal conflicts within opposition parties while promoting his government’s achievements. By framing the civic polls as a “survival battle” for the Thackeray cousins, he is attempting to position the Mahayuti alliance as the only viable choice for effective governance in Mumbai.
As Mumbai heads toward the elections, the focus on both development and political credibility will likely shape voter perceptions. Fadnavis’ remarks emphasize governance, economic progress, and civic administration, while targeting perceived weaknesses in opposition leadership. The outcome of these elections is expected to influence political dynamics in Maharashtra’s financial capital significantly.
