New Delhi, June 13 – In a shocking and tragic development, former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani is reportedly among the victims of an Air India aircraft crash that occurred earlier today. The flight, which was on its way from Delhi to a southern Indian city, is said to have lost communication shortly after takeoff and later crashed under yet-to-be-confirmed circumstances.
As per preliminary sources, Rupani was traveling to visit his daughter, who resides outside Gujarat, when the unfortunate incident occurred. The news has left the political fraternity and the general public in disbelief, with expressions of grief pouring in from across party lines.
Though Air India and civil aviation authorities have yet to issue an official list of casualties, sources familiar with the passenger manifest have indicated that Rupani was indeed on board the ill-fated flight. Rescue and recovery teams have been deployed at the crash site, and efforts are ongoing to identify the deceased and locate any potential survivors.
The crash took place in a remote area, making rescue operations more challenging. Local authorities, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and Air India officials are coordinating efforts on the ground. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash, including possible technical failure or weather-related factors.
Rupani, who served as the Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2016 to 2021, was a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a respected figure in state and national politics. Known for his administrative capabilities and clean image, his sudden and unexpected death has led to a massive outpouring of grief on social media and within government circles.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who shares close ties with Rupani from their time in Gujarat politics, is reported to have been informed of the situation and is closely monitoring developments. Several Union ministers and Gujarat leaders have expressed deep sorrow over the news, awaiting formal confirmation from aviation authorities.
Meanwhile, at Rupani’s residence in Rajkot, family members and supporters have gathered, many in tears and disbelief. BJP leaders in Gujarat have canceled public programs and issued a statement urging supporters to remain calm while awaiting official confirmation.
Air India has assured that a full inquiry will be conducted and that families of the passengers will be provided with all possible support. The airline has also set up emergency helplines and assistance centers in airports connected to the route.
This tragic incident has not only claimed lives but has also raised fresh concerns about aviation safety in India. With investigations now underway, more clarity is expected in the coming hours.
