Amid the growing controversy surrounding his wife’s alleged links to the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has expressed confidence that his family stands firm against the baseless accusations. In a statement issued earlier today, Gogoi acknowledged that the government had the authority to conduct a probe into the matter, but he asserted that he and his family were confident in their position and had nothing to hide.
The controversy erupted after reports surfaced suggesting that Gogoi's wife may have been involved in activities related to the ISI, sparking a political firestorm in the state. Several political opponents have raised questions regarding the alleged links, demanding an investigation.
In response to these allegations, Gogoi strongly refuted the claims, calling them politically motivated and a part of an ongoing smear campaign. He emphasized that such accusations were part of an effort to malign his reputation and distract from pressing political issues. Gogoi further clarified that he had full faith in the Indian legal system and any investigation should be conducted transparently.
Although the government has not confirmed the initiation of any formal investigation, the matter continues to generate significant media and political attention. Local authorities have remained tight-lipped, while political leaders continue to make statements regarding the alleged incident.
As the controversy continues to unfold, many have expressed concerns over the impact of such politically charged accusations on public trust and political discourse in Assam. Gogoi’s response indicates his readiness to confront the issue head-on, insisting that his family’s integrity remains intact.
