The government has officially informed the Lok Sabha that the cost of constructing the new Parliament building and the Vice President's enclave has escalated due to various factors, including inflation, revised project estimates, and additional infrastructural requirements.
The new Parliament building, which is a key part of the Central Vista redevelopment project, was initially projected to be completed within a specific budget. However, rising material costs, labor expenses, and architectural modifications have led to an increase in the overall expenditure.
Similarly, the Vice President’s enclave, designed to provide official residence and office space, has also witnessed a cost escalation. The government emphasized that the increased expenses were necessary to meet the evolving needs of modern infrastructure while ensuring durability and sustainability.
Opposition leaders have raised concerns regarding the rising costs, demanding greater transparency in financial allocations and expenditures. However, the government has assured that all financial decisions are taken with due diligence and in adherence to prescribed guidelines.
The Central Vista project, which includes the construction of new administrative buildings, ministerial offices, and public spaces, remains a significant part of India's governance infrastructure transformation. The government reiterated its commitment to completing these projects efficiently while maintaining financial accountability.
