At a political rally held in Haryana, Saini claimed that the AAP government in Punjab has failed to tackle the state’s water management challenges, exacerbating the crisis instead of resolving it.

Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has recently launched a strong critique against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), accusing it of politicising the water crisis in Punjab rather than providing effective solutions. At a political rally held in Haryana, Saini claimed that the AAP government in Punjab has failed to tackle the state’s water management challenges, exacerbating the crisis instead of resolving it.

Saini highlighted that water scarcity and mismanagement have become major issues affecting farmers and residents in Punjab. According to him, the ruling party has been using the crisis as a political tool to divert attention from its governance shortcomings. He emphasised that sustainable and scientific water conservation measures must be prioritised rather than political point-scoring.

Speaking about the political future, Saini predicted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would make significant electoral gains in Punjab in the upcoming assembly elections. He argued that the public’s growing dissatisfaction with AAP’s handling of crucial issues, including water scarcity, law and order, and economic concerns, would reflect in voting patterns. “The people of Punjab are looking for a government that delivers results, and BJP is prepared to meet their expectations,” he said.

The Chief Minister’s remarks come amid increasing political tensions between Haryana and Punjab, especially concerning inter-state water sharing disputes. The Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal issue remains unresolved, contributing to strained relations between the two neighbouring states. Water distribution has been a contentious topic, with both states accusing each other of unfair practices.

Political analysts note that water crisis management has become a critical election issue in Punjab, influencing voter sentiment. Opposition parties, including BJP, are capitalising on AAP’s perceived failures to consolidate their political base.

In response, AAP leaders have dismissed Saini’s accusations as politically motivated and lacking substantive basis. They claim that their government is committed to addressing water issues through various schemes and cooperative federalism. The party also criticised the BJP for not providing long-term solutions to Punjab’s water problems when it was in power at the centre.

As the political discourse intensifies, the water crisis remains a pressing concern for farmers and citizens in Punjab. Effective inter-state collaboration and transparent governance will be crucial to resolving the issue sustainably.

The coming months will be critical as parties ramp up their campaigns ahead of Punjab’s assembly elections. Water management, along with economic development and social welfare, is expected to dominate the political narrative.

Speaking about the political future, Saini predicted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would make significant electoral gains in Punjab in the upcoming assembly elections.
