Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday paid floral tributes to Dr BR Ambedkar on the occasion of Constitution Day at the Haryana Legislative Assembly in Chandigarh. The ceremony was held to honour the architect of the Indian Constitution and to remember his contribution towards building a strong democratic nation. Several cabinet ministers, legislators, and senior government officials attended the tribute ceremony.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Saini said that Dr BR Ambedkar played a historic role in shaping the foundation of modern India through the Constitution. He described the Constitution as the guiding force of the country that protects the rights of every citizen and ensures justice, liberty, equality and fraternity. He added that Ambedkar’s vision continues to guide India's progress even decades after independence.
The Chief Minister highlighted that Constitution Day is not only a day to remember the making of the Constitution but also a reminder of the duties of citizens. He stated that democracy becomes strong when people respect the Constitution and follow its values in daily life. He urged the youth of the state to read the Constitution and understand the rights and responsibilities given to them.
During the event, leaders recalled the social reforms introduced by Dr Ambedkar and his lifelong struggle for the upliftment of the poor, backward classes and marginalised communities. They said that Ambedkar fought against discrimination and dedicated his life to establishing a society based on equality and dignity.
Constitution Day, also known as Samvidhan Divas, is observed every year on November 26 to mark the adoption of the Indian Constitution in 1949. The Constitution came into effect on January 26, 1950, which is celebrated as Republic Day. Across the country, educational institutions, government offices and public organisations observe the day with various programs such as readings of the Preamble, discussions, and awareness campaigns.
In Haryana, special programs were also organised in schools and colleges to make students aware of the importance of the Constitution. The state government encouraged citizens to uphold democratic values and actively participate in the nation-building process.
Chief Minister Saini concluded his address by saying that the best tribute to Dr Ambedkar would be to follow the path shown by him and to work collectively for a just and inclusive society. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Haryana government to work in accordance with constitutional principles and to ensure development reaches every section of society.
