India delivered a strong response to Pakistan at the United Nations General Assembly, accusing its neighbour of promoting what it described as fabricated narratives on Islamophobia while failing to address concerns related to religious freedom within its own borders. The remarks were made during a session focused on global efforts to combat religious intolerance and discrimination.
Representing India at the international forum, officials emphasised that discussions on religious discrimination must be balanced and inclusive, addressing all forms of hatred rather than focusing selectively on specific issues. India stated that attempts to highlight Islamophobia without acknowledging broader challenges risk undermining collective efforts to promote harmony and mutual respect among different communities.
India also pointed to its own record as a diverse and pluralistic society, noting that it is home to one of the largest Muslim populations in the world. The country highlighted its longstanding traditions of coexistence and constitutional protections that guarantee freedom of religion to all citizens. According to India’s statement, these factors demonstrate its commitment to inclusivity and democratic values.
The response from India came after Pakistan raised concerns about Islamophobia at the global मंच, urging the international community to take stronger measures against discrimination targeting Muslim communities. In its counter statement, India accused Pakistan of diverting attention from its domestic issues by presenting what it described as selective narratives on international platforms.
India further stressed that global discussions should focus on combating hatred, violence, and discrimination against all religions, including Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, Christianity, and others. It called for a comprehensive approach that promotes dialogue, understanding, and cooperation among nations.
The exchange between the two countries reflects longstanding diplomatic tensions that often surface in multilateral forums such as the United Nations. Both nations have frequently used international platforms to present their perspectives on issues related to human rights, security, and regional stability.
Observers note that such exchanges, while politically significant, also highlight the importance of maintaining constructive dialogue in international institutions. The United Nations continues to serve as a मंच where member states can raise concerns, respond to criticisms, and engage in discussions on global challenges.
India concluded its statement by reiterating the need for a unified global effort to counter all forms of religious intolerance. It emphasised that addressing discrimination in a fair and balanced manner is essential for building peaceful and inclusive societies worldwide.
The development underscores the ongoing debate within the international community on how best to tackle religious discrimination while ensuring that discussions remain objective and comprehensive.
