External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar described the situation in the Gulf region as a matter of particular concern and emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of Indian nationals living and working in affected areas.

The Government of India has successfully evacuated nearly 67000 Indian citizens from different parts of West Asia amid rising tensions in the region. The large scale evacuation effort was carried out through coordinated actions involving the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian embassies, and various government agencies.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar described the situation in the Gulf region as a matter of particular concern and emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of Indian nationals living and working in affected areas. He said the government has been closely monitoring developments and taking steps to assist citizens who were stranded due to the crisis.

According to officials, the evacuation effort involved the creation of a special control room under government supervision. The control room served as a central communication hub where citizens could seek help, receive guidance, and register requests for evacuation. Officials also coordinated with embassies and local authorities to ensure safe and orderly travel arrangements.

Indian embassies across several West Asian countries played an important role in the operation. Diplomatic officials worked with local authorities to secure safe border crossings for Indian citizens who needed to move from conflict affected areas to safer locations. Embassy staff also helped coordinate travel documents and emergency support for people who required assistance.

In addition to diplomatic coordination, commercial flights were arranged to transport Indian nationals back to India. The government worked with airlines to ensure that sufficient flights were available for those wishing to return home. In many cases, embassy teams helped organize transportation from affected regions to airports where evacuation flights were departing.

The evacuation of thousands of Indian citizens highlights the large Indian diaspora present in West Asia. Millions of Indians live and work in Gulf countries and contribute significantly to sectors such as construction, healthcare, trade, and services. Because of this large presence, regional instability often requires careful monitoring by Indian authorities to protect the interests of its citizens.

Officials said the evacuation process involved continuous communication between the government and Indian communities abroad. Helplines, embassy advisories, and digital communication channels were used to provide updates and instructions to people seeking assistance.

Experts say such evacuation efforts require coordination across multiple levels of government. Apart from the Ministry of External Affairs, aviation authorities, immigration officials, and local administrations in India also play an important role in ensuring that returning citizens are received safely and assisted after arrival.

The government has indicated that it will continue monitoring the situation in West Asia and will take additional measures if required. Authorities have also advised Indian nationals in the region to remain in contact with embassies and follow official advisories for their safety.

The successful return of nearly 67000 citizens demonstrates India commitment to protecting its nationals overseas during times of crisis. Officials said efforts will continue to ensure that any remaining citizens who require assistance are supported through diplomatic channels and coordinated evacuation arrangements.
