The Indian government must not remain a mute spectator,” she said.

Srinagar, June 14: Regional political parties in Jammu and Kashmir, including the National Conference (NC), the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and other smaller groups, have voiced strong condemnation of Israel’s ongoing military operations in Gaza. The condemnation comes amid growing international outrage over the escalating humanitarian crisis in the region following weeks of airstrikes and ground assaults.

In separate statements and social media posts, senior leaders from across the political spectrum in Jammu and Kashmir expressed deep concern about the loss of civilian lives, including women and children. They urged both the international community and the Indian government to intervene diplomatically and push for an immediate ceasefire.

Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti Lead Reactions

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and NC Vice President Omar Abdullah took to social media, calling the situation in Gaza “deeply disturbing.” He said that the images of destruction and civilian suffering highlight the need for the world to act urgently.

PDP President Mehbooba Mufti echoed similar sentiments, criticizing what she termed the “global silence” on the atrocities being committed.

“The indiscriminate bombing of civilian areas in Gaza must be condemned by every civilized nation. The Indian government must not remain a mute spectator,” she said.

She also questioned India's abstention from recent UN resolutions related to the Israel-Palestine conflict and called for a more humane and principled foreign policy approach.

Appeals for Diplomatic Intervention

The regional parties urged New Delhi to use its global diplomatic platforms to call for de-escalation and peaceful resolution in Gaza. They emphasized that India's historic support for Palestinian rights must not be diluted under current global alignments.

Leaders said India should stand for justice and human rights, especially given its own constitutional values and international commitments. Many of them also pointed to India’s earlier record of advocating for peaceful resolutions in international conflicts and urged a return to that stance.

Support from Civil Society

The political statements have been echoed by civil society groups and student organizations in the Valley, which held small peaceful gatherings to express solidarity with the people of Gaza. Activists demanded that the international community, especially the United Nations, act swiftly to ensure humanitarian aid reaches affected civilians and that war crimes, if any, are documented and investigated.

Security and Political Sensitivity in J&K

Given the politically sensitive atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmir, especially in relation to issues concerning international conflicts and human rights, the statements by regional leaders have garnered wide attention. Authorities have urged the public to express their views peacefully and avoid gatherings that could disturb public order.

Conclusion

As the crisis in Gaza continues to unfold, the strong condemnation by Jammu and Kashmir’s regional parties reflects the deep humanitarian concerns shared across India. While these leaders call for a principled foreign policy, their statements also highlight a growing domestic demand for moral clarity in the face of global human rights challenges.
