With speculation and apprehensions growing regarding the central government’s intent to modify certain aspects of the Act, the JDU has stepped forward to clarify its position and reassure the public.

Patna/New Delhi:

The Janata Dal (United) has begun a focused outreach campaign toward minority communities, especially Muslims, amid rising concerns over possible amendments to the Waqf Act. With speculation and apprehensions growing regarding the central government’s intent to modify certain aspects of the Act, the JDU has stepped forward to clarify its position and reassure the public.

Senior JDU leaders have stated that the party is committed to protecting minority rights, especially those related to Waqf properties, which hold religious and social significance for the Muslim community. The move comes in the backdrop of a national conversation about the governance and regulation of Waqf assets and rumors about possible central intervention to curtail or restructure the existing Waqf Board framework.

JDU spokespersons have affirmed that the party will stand against any move that undermines the autonomy of Waqf boards or the constitutional safeguards provided to minority-managed institutions. “We are reaching out to community leaders, scholars, and legal experts to ensure that no injustice is done in the name of reform,” said a senior leader.

The outreach is also being seen as a political strategy ahead of upcoming elections, where minority votes play a crucial role, particularly in Bihar. The JDU, traditionally known for its secular stance under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, is attempting to strengthen its support base by reassuring the Muslim electorate of its stand on sensitive issues like the Waqf Act.

In a recent meeting with Muslim organizations and clerics in Patna, JDU leaders reiterated that the party had not supported any proposal that would negatively affect Waqf institutions. They also pledged to raise the matter at both the state and national levels if any amendments appear to threaten minority interests.

Legal experts consulted by the JDU are currently reviewing the proposed changes and advising the party on a constitutional and community-friendly approach. Party insiders suggest that the feedback from the minority community will be compiled and possibly submitted as a memorandum to central authorities.

Political analysts view the JDU’s proactive steps as part of a larger damage control and trust-building exercise, especially amid reports that some opposition parties are planning to highlight the Waqf issue as a major campaign point.

In the evolving political landscape, JDU’s engagement signals an attempt to maintain its secular and inclusive identity, even while balancing its alliance dynamics at the national level.

“We are reaching out to community leaders, scholars, and legal experts to ensure that no injustice is done in the name of reform,” said a senior leader.
