The Karnataka Congress has once again brought Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar into focus after sharing a video praising his leadership qualities and contributions to the party. The video, posted on the party’s official social media handle, described Shivakumar as not just a name but a brand, highlighting his organisational strength and political presence.
In the video, the Karnataka Congress referred to Shivakumar as a party worker at heart and a man of the soil, underscoring his long association with the organisation. He was also described as a problem solver and a leader with power and purpose. The messaging emphasised his role in strengthening the party structure and connecting with grassroots workers.
The praise has drawn attention as it comes against the backdrop of earlier discussions surrounding leadership equations within the Karnataka Congress. In recent months, there had been intense speculation over a possible change in leadership, particularly concerning the Chief Minister’s post. The issue gained momentum after the Congress government in the state completed two and a half years in office in November last year.
During that period, supporters of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar were seen expressing differing views, leading to public debate within the party. Although senior party leaders later attempted to downplay the differences and stress unity, the matter remained a subject of political discussion.

DK Shivakumar, who also serves as the state Congress president, is considered one of the party’s key leaders in Karnataka. He played a crucial role in the party’s victory in the 2023 assembly elections and has since been central to organisational and administrative decision making.
