Union Minister Kiren Rijiju strongly rebuked the Opposition for what he described as “cheap politics” following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent address in Parliament regarding Operation Sindoor. The statement came in response to critical remarks from several Opposition leaders who questioned the government's handling of internal security and recent terror incidents in Jammu and Kashmir.
During his speech, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the objectives and outcomes of Operation Sindoor, a coordinated security operation aimed at tackling militant activity in Kashmir. He praised the armed forces and law enforcement agencies for their bravery and assured the public that the government was taking all necessary steps to ensure safety and peace in the region.
However, several Opposition leaders responded critically, alleging intelligence failures and questioning the government's broader Kashmir policy. Some also accused the ruling party of politicizing national security issues to divert attention from economic and social challenges facing the country.
Reacting to these comments, Kiren Rijiju, a senior BJP leader and Union Minister, accused the Opposition of attempting to score political points on sensitive national matters. Speaking to the media, Rijiju said, “The Prime Minister has given a clear and firm statement on Operation Sindoor. It is unfortunate that some leaders in the Opposition continue to play politics even when national security is at stake.”
He added that at a time when the country is confronting serious internal security threats, all political parties must stand united. “This is not the time for political blame games. It is a moment that calls for solidarity and maturity. We should not send the wrong message to our enemies or demoralize our security forces,” Rijiju stated.
The minister further emphasized that national interest should take precedence over partisan differences. He warned that the international community closely observes how India handles internal challenges, and irresponsible political statements could harm the country’s global image.
The BJP has continued to defend Operation Sindoor as a necessary and effective counter-terror measure. Party spokespersons reiterated that the government's Kashmir policy is driven by national security priorities and aimed at long-term stability in the region.
In contrast, the Opposition has maintained that critical questioning of government action should not be viewed as anti-national or unpatriotic. Congress and other opposition parties have demanded more transparency and a detailed briefing to Parliament on the goals and results of Operation Sindoor.
As the political debate continues, analysts note that national security has become a contentious topic in Indian politics, often leading to clashes between the government and opposition. While the ruling party calls for unity, critics argue for the right to accountability and open debate in a democracy.
The issue is expected to remain in focus as Parliament continues its monsoon session and further discussions on internal security are scheduled.
