Maharashtra Political Buzz: Fadnavis’ ‘Offer’ Remark, Uddhav’s Response, and CM Shinde’s Clarification

Uddhav said that he had not been approached with any serious or official proposal from the BJP after the 2019 elections.

A fresh political row has emerged in Maharashtra after Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis hinted at a private political offer allegedly made to Uddhav Thackeray in the past. The statement, described as “andar ki baat” or inside information, triggered a wave of speculation about possible behind-the-scenes discussions between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shiv Sena (UBT) before their eventual split.

Speaking at a public function, Fadnavis remarked that Uddhav Thackeray was once offered an opportunity to avoid the political turmoil that unfolded after the 2019 Maharashtra assembly elections. He did not provide specific details but suggested that the offer could have changed the course of political events in the state had it been accepted.

Responding sharply, Uddhav Thackeray denied that any such offer was made and stated that his decisions were based on ideological commitment, not convenience. He reiterated that the Shiv Sena's alliance with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Congress was formed to preserve democratic values and uphold the legacy of Bal Thackeray. Uddhav said that he had not been approached with any serious or official proposal from the BJP after the 2019 elections.

Adding to the political conversation, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde stepped in to clarify the current government’s position. Shinde emphasized that his administration is focused on development and governance, not political messaging or personal accusations. He urged all parties to move beyond past controversies and work toward a stable and productive environment in the state.

Political analysts see this as part of a larger strategy ahead of the 2024 Maharashtra assembly elections. The remarks by Fadnavis and the subsequent reaction by Uddhav Thackeray may be aimed at shaping public perception and reinforcing each party’s stance on past alliances and betrayals.

The Shiv Sena was originally part of the BJP-led alliance in the 2019 elections but later broke away to form the Maha Vikas Aghadi government with the NCP and Congress. The split led to a significant political shift in Maharashtra, followed by further realignments in 2022 when Eknath Shinde led a faction of the Shiv Sena to join hands with the BJP again.

The fresh remarks from Fadnavis and the response from Uddhav have revived memories of that volatile period in state politics. It has also drawn attention to the continuing rivalry between the Shiv Sena factions and the BJP’s leadership in Maharashtra.

As the political atmosphere heats up in the state, these exchanges suggest that both camps are preparing for a high-stakes contest in the upcoming elections. The narrative around loyalty, ideology, and political strategy is once again taking center stage in Maharashtra’s dynamic political landscape.
