In a public address on Thursday, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh offered a heartfelt apology to the citizens of the state for the widespread violence that has plagued Manipur over the past months. The violence, which has led to numerous casualties and displaced hundreds, has drawn national attention and raised serious concerns about the stability of the region.
In his statement, CM Biren Singh acknowledged the suffering endured by the people of Manipur, particularly the ethnic communities caught in the crossfire. He expressed his regret for the disruptions to daily life, the destruction of property, and the loss of lives. Singh stated, “I deeply regret the violence and the pain caused to our people. As your Chief Minister, I take full responsibility for the situation. My government is committed to ensuring peace and normalcy in Manipur by 2025.”
The Chief Minister reiterated his government’s commitment to peace, emphasizing that efforts are underway to engage in dialogue with all stakeholders, including community leaders, civil society groups, and security forces. Singh stated that addressing the underlying causes of the violence—such as ethnic tensions, land disputes, and insurgency—will require careful planning and concerted efforts from all sections of society.
The state government has already initiated several measures aimed at curbing the violence and promoting reconciliation, including the formation of peace committees and the deployment of additional security personnel to ensure law and order. Singh expressed confidence that with continued support from the central government, local leaders, and the people of Manipur, normalcy would be restored in the state within the next year.
The violence in Manipur began earlier this year, with tensions flaring between different ethnic groups, leading to a series of clashes that have left the state in turmoil. The unrest has drawn international attention, and the situation has been further complicated by insurgent activities and a heavy security presence.
Several opposition parties have criticized the state government for its handling of the situation, while others have called for a more inclusive approach to resolving the ethnic tensions that have long simmered in the state. However, CM Biren Singh’s government has continued to insist that it is committed to ensuring lasting peace and stability.
In his address, Singh also called for unity among the people of Manipur, stating, “We must not allow divisive forces to tear apart the fabric of our society. We must come together to build a peaceful and prosperous future for our state.”
The announcement comes amidst growing public pressure on the state government to find a long-term solution to the crisis. Singh’s pledge to restore normalcy by 2025 is seen as an ambitious goal, but it is one that many hope will bring a much-needed end to the ongoing violence and instability in the state.
